Precariously employed education workers at Goldsmiths university in south London have launched a marking boycott in their fight to resist job cuts. Their action has been taken "unofficially", in confrontation with the anti-union laws. Around 75% of the staff facing layoffs are BAME.
Read more about the dispute on the Precarious@Gold website here, and donate to the workers' support fund here.
Green Left/ Green Party Trade Union group sends support to the workers of Goldsmiths College, 163 academics on fixed term contracts, along with 309 Associate Lecturers (ALs) and Graduate Trainee Tutors (GTTs), who are facing the threat of redundancy and are taking unofficial action into resist this threat. We call on Goldsmiths management to open negotiations with the University and College Union (UCU). We note with concern that most of the threatened workers are from BAME backgrounds and that Goldsmiths College is laying itself open to accusations of institutional racism by threatening the employment of these workers.
